Language, Literacy & Communication 23rd - 27th Nov '09

We listened to the story of "Handa's Surprise". We talked about the differences between Handa's lifestyle and ours including her jobs, clothes, the weather in her country and the different exotic fruits in the story)

We learnt an action rhyme called "I am different". We looked at our photographs around the rhyme and discussed how we all differ in appearance.

Mathematical Development 23rd - 27th Nov '09

We threw a spotty dice and once we had counted the spots we counted out the correct number of compare bears/pennies and matched to a number flashcard.

We played a 'Lecky the alien' game on the Interactive Whiteboard where we had to recognise the number on the sun and catch that amount of butterflies for Lecky.

We looked at different countries in travel brochures and thought about where we would like to visit. We cut out some pictures of that country and gave a reason as to why we would like to go there.

Personal & Social Development 23rd - 27th Nov '09

In a circle time activity, we played "pass the smile" where we all held hands, turned to the person next to us and smile at them. We all had to pass the smile around the circle to each other. We then had an idea to pass a funny face around the circle.

As we have been learning about different countries and cultures this week, we tasted food from Italy (pizza), Mexico (a mix of southern fried chicken chunks, chicken & salsa tortillas, sweetcorn & spring onion fritter and cajun prawn taco) and India (a lovely curried rice made by Amal's mum which consisted of rice, spices, chickpeas and raisins).


Amal and Shritik's mum kindly brought in some Indian clothes for us to try on which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Creative Development 23rd-27th Nov '09

As part of our Multicultural theme this week we explored 'Batik' (An art and a craft practised in mainly Indonesia where cloth is decorated using wax and dye)

1) We lit a candle and carefully dripped the melted wax onto our piece of material






2) We dipped our piece of material into food colouring.


3) Once the material had dried, we cracked off the candle wax to reveal the patterns we had created.







In Music/Creative Movement we explored Beat and tempo. We listened to a story about Ananse spider, a Caribbean story character, then danced to 'Ratta's dance' by turning, twisting, bending low, stretching high, etc. We tried to match the speed of the music, getting faster and faster just like Ratta did in the story.

We listened to different tunes on the piano and talked about how they made us feel like moving. We responded by moving around the hall in different ways.

Welsh Language Development 23rd-27th Nov '09

We are trying hard to get 'tocyn iaith' (language tickets) by speaking as much incidental Welsh as we can. We get a house point everytime we are awarded a 'tocyn iaith'.
