5th - 9th October '09

This week, our focus has been on parts of the body

We learnt the finger rhyme "Tommy thumb, where are you?" and used our ICT skills by recording our singing with the 'Easi-Speak' microphone.

We drew around our bodies on large sheets of paper and talked about how we all differ in size (number skills - measuring)

In this number activity, we threw a spotty dice and counted the spots each time.

In this outdoor activity, the children used their number recognition and counting skills to make a number line using large number mats.

This 'Kim's game' activity involved us using our thinking skills. We looked at and talked about a variety of pieces of clothing e.g. sock, glove, scarf, hat, belt, vest. These were then covered with a cloth and removed discreetly one at a time while we closed our eyes. We then had to think carefully about which object had been removed.

We used our hands to feel a variety of objects with different textures whilst wearing a blindfold. We had to guess which object was in our hands. (thinking skills)

We used individual foot and hand cut outs to make pictures.

(Communication skills - mark-making)

We used scissors to cut out pieces of the 'body puzzle' and stuck them back together again in our books. (thinking skills)

In P.E we talked about what we use different body parts for then acted out different body movements. We thought about how many different ways we can use our hands and feet and demonstrated some of these.

28th September - 2nd October '09

This week our focus has been birthdays/balloons.

We read a story called "The Blue Balloon" (Communication - reading)

We coloured an outline picture of Spot the dog at his Birthday party (Communication skills - writing/mark-making)

Some more examples of mark-making activities we have enjoyed:

Rolling with paint

Free drawing

making patterns with our fingers in shaving foam

In this ICT activity on the Plasma screen computer, we counted out and 'drew' 4 candles on the birthday cake.

We used our thinking skills to create a simple repeating 2-colour pattern using our forefingers

During a PSE Circle Time session, we had a visit from our Persona doll 'Emily'. We talked about how she felt on her first day at school and had a think about what skills are needed to work and play together nicely.

We have had lots of fun in the play fort on the infant yard.

We have been using different skills in our free play:
Showing curiosity and exploring (Thinking)
Talk to themselves and others (Communication)

ICT

Match pictures (Number)

On Friday we all took a balloon home each according to what colour group we are in:

21st - 25th September '09

This week the focus has been on friendship and making friends.

This week we learnt the number rhyme "5 little ducks went swimming one day". Through this activity we practised reciting and counting numbers to 5.

Through this "Fizzy's Numbers" ICT activity we played some games which focus on numbers 1 - 10.

We searched for 2-D shapes (circles, squares, triangles, rectangles) around the Nursery yard then used our thinking and communication skills to sort and match them into shape sets. We then tried to make the shapes ourselves using our bodies.

We explored changes by melting chocolate in the microwave, sharing it into 'petit four' cases, then used our thinking skills to decide how we could make the chocolate solid again. We put our chocolates in the fridge and when they were set we decorated them with a smartie and took them home to enjoy.

We each made a friendship bracelet for a chosen friend. We decorated a paper strip by making marks with felt pens.

We have enjoyed playing a range of play perscussion instruments and exploring/thinking about the sounds that they make.

During a PSE Circle time activity, we passed chocolate teddy around each other in a circle. When it was our turn to hold chocolate teddy, we used our communication skills to tell everybody which friends we had played with that day. We listened to our friends when it wasn't our turn to speak.

We have been using our ICT skills in the infant computer suite. We work with our talking/computer partners and in this 'Mouse Skills' game we are practising our mouse control.

We have 'painted' pictures of ourselves on the plasma screen computer using the '2Paint' programme.

We have really enjoyed playing new games with the parachute during PE lessons.
